Goodbye Portland!! Thanks for the sweet send off!!

Well, we really did it: we left Portland behind and started a new leg of our lives' journeys, together! Many good friends joined us on the docks(both in person and in spirit) to say goodbye. It was very touching and sweet, and rather a bit hard to say goodbye, but we did. Fortunately, the tears were kept at bay until we got out on the river. Waving goodbye until the docks were a spot on the horizon...then turning and looking forward to see what lay ahead of us. Bridges. BIG cargo ships and barges. beautiful river lined with trees and odd spots of heavy industrial developement. birds. life. So the journey began... We spent our first night at St. Helens, a comforting first leg because we had been there before. We celebrated with a beer(or two! thank you Jeni and Cloressa!), took some cool pictures of the almost full moon, and slept like babies. It's quiet on the boat without her being near the airport...
