Goodbye Minor Key, Hello Bike Tour!

Well, yesterday we gave Elliot the rundown of his new, fabulous boat, signed the title over to him and gave him the keys to his new baby! And he gave us our savings account...then we loaded MUCH gear on our bikes and rode off to do last minute errands before leaving Eureka (which we have definitely developed a fondness for). Myrtle Marie seemed to find the change of scenery both interesting and intimidating, so she alternated between sticking her head out of her trailer and ducking back in. But her kittenly nature is proving strong and flexible, and she spent the whole night last night frolicking around the hotel room we splurged on in Fortuna (we got SOME sleep...). So she seems to be enjoying her new environment more than not, as are Michael and myself. Adjusting to the weight of a touring bike took me a little bit, but by the end of the day the only thing hurting was my seat. And it felt so good to ride again! We didn't go terribly far, but we also didn't leave Eureka until after 3 p.m. We biked past the marina on our way out of town and had one last look at Minor Key. She was looking pretty beautiful in the afternoon sun. And her proud new daddy was still lovingly examining his new baby...
And our next stop...Humbolt Redwoods, where we will wait out the storm coming...

Hey Lady,

Good luck on leg 2 of your great adventure!

I hope you get to explore Humboldt more fully than Brian and I did on our Honeymoon! I wish I had gotten a good long swim in the eel river and a hike in while we were there.

If you happen to have a hankering for a real bed, the Redcrest Resort on the north end of the park treated us very well:

(little cabins with their own kitchens, lumpy beds, and 70's decor :) loved it!)

Give Micheal and Myrtle a hug and kiss for me!

love,
Helen
