Bikes, just for the record, are WAY better than sailboats. Just in case you were curious. Granted, we've only biked 70 something miles, but they have undoubtedly been the best miles of the trip thus far. For one thing, there has not been one smidgen of sea-sickness to be seen (or felt, much to Michael's relief). Second of all, there has been a hint of minty, herbally-something delicious in the air as we biked through the redwoods, accentuated by the substantial dousing of airborne water particles to said beautiful redwood forest. Thirdly, there is something quite satisfactory about looking down a rather impressive mountain, from the top, after one has just spent a goodly amount of time panting one's way up it, pedal-stroke by oh-so-slow-pedal-stroke! Yup. Life has definitely taken a turn for the better since we decided to be reasonable about this whole traveling deal. And, I must confess, in my excitement about the favorable turn of events and the decision to switch to biking, in the last blog posting I was quite remiss in extending a HUGE THANK YOU to my wonderful and noble parents! They drove a truck up to Eureka (which we are still fond of, but are also thinking that Garberville is equally cool and nice and small-town-ish, and would possibly be a great place to live for a short period of time someday, maybe. and IF one were to ever visit Garberville and want to stay in a motel, Lone Pine motel is run by a very nice man.) and my fabulous parents helped us load our stuff from the boat into said large vehicle in quite the timely manner. So we did not have to spent hours agonizing about what we would get rid of. Instead,(ah, my clever parents) we will spend those hours agonizing with them, when we get down to SLO town. So! The bike tour has started off wonderfully, though a bit damply. We are very much looking forward to this storm passing so we can continue our adventures south! Stay tuned as the adventures continue, and stay dry as winter advances!
