There are some people we would like to acknowledge for their awesomeness! Firstly, we would like to say an extremely loud and heartfelt thank you to Kim, at Columbia Marine Exchange (located at 33rd and Marine Dr.) for helping supply our trip with affordable gear. She cut us a lot of good deals, even though she had just bought a sailboat herself and wasn't feeling particularly wealthy at the time. Kim, you were very kind and generous to us and we really appreciate it! Thank you! Next, we would like to thank everyone that reads our blog, and especially everyone that has left us messages! It's really wonderful to read notes left for us by our loving friends when (it feels like) we are far from anything and everyone, busy being crazy spirit questers! And thirdly, we would like to say thank you to this wise and kind universe for the sale of our sailboat yesterday. We have had a lot of time to cool our heels and think here in Crescent City, and to meet some guys who were stuck here for a long time because their engine blew and they had to order parts from Norway. And then, after we started talking about maybe selling the boat and going on a bike tour of the states instead...there was a tsunami warning and we headed out to sea in small craft advisory, just in case...Well! the tsunami didn't really come, but, in the rough seas, Michael's sea-sickness sure did! That's when we decided that we should be flexible if we wanted to travel, and throw away ideas that were proving unrealistic for us, like sailing to Australia. The universe has a way of humbling you before it frees you; I suspect it's so you live longer. Sailing was proving expensive, not environmentally friendly, terrifying, and physically irratating for me(I HATE getting thrown across the cabin and hitting my head in rough seas, turns out) and physically debilitating for Michael(not safe for the skipper to be out of comission, although I got pretty good at navigating because I was the only one who could go inside the cabin). So we put the boat up for sail on craigslist. Next day we got a call from Elliot in Eureka, and yesterday he, and his friends Mark and Al, and his mom, came to see the boat. They were smart enough to realize what a good deal they were getting due to our odd circumstances, and they bought Minor Key for less than we asked but more than we hoped for! I, for one, have never sold a boat before, but Michael has sold a number of them, and he stated, definitely, that to sell a boat to the first people that look at her IS, in fact, a quantifiable miracle. So I guess the universe wants us to bike around the U.S. for a while...who would have guessed?

We would like to say thank you today...

Congratulations on your positive outlook and flexibility about where you are supposed to go and who you are supposed to be! I know how it feels to have things go in a completely different direction than you had planned, but it seems like you two are embracing it lovingly. (Not surprising)
Will you be getting a little bicycle basket for kitty? I can't wait to hear of this adventure. I think I'd rather be traveling on land myself, so I hope it proves to be as amazing as the two of you are!

Hi,
Just saw a bike trailer like you wanted at a garage sale today for $20. But that doesn't help at all, though. My wife still says I can't have half share, even though I gave you guys my word we were going to buy it at the agreed upon price, and "let the cards fall where they may..." The graciousness and goodwill you evinced after taking a financial beating after being backed in a corner is something I'll never forget. My warm wishes to you. I had to decide that my marriage was worth more than the boat. I'll follow your adventures and contribute when I can. Godspeed!
Love,
Mark
