Greetings, Just a quick update of the campaign . Here in Portland we are lucky enough to be getting our possibly last nice shot of weather. October is almost here and we are having near 90 degree days! And the wind has been kind and out of the east , not a usual occurence. Things are going well with the project , everyday I see another aspect of the project that excites me even more. I have been working on networking and getting the word out about the project and how people around me may able to help. One goal is to keep this voyage as simple as possible and to promote simple low impact ways of life. It seems as with all of my travelling, that the simpler you keep it the more enjoyable and enriching it becomes. And that is a goal of this project. I have been working on several simple list of items that are needed to make the project a sucess. And since Minor Key will be our base and platform to work from as well as our means of getting to these destinations most of the list involves her. For instance about $600 will pay for the new mainsail, which is a necessary safety item and our main source of power. Another $600 will cover the cost of the new standing rigging , another integral part of the boat , for it holds the mast upright! Those are the major things required the rest are much smaller items such as bottom paint , jacklines, spare parts , ect. Like I said the goal is to be as simple and self sufficent as possible , and to break down any walls between our boat and the local people, this way we will learn more and be able to share more with them. Regular submissions of photos and stories will come via mail or ssb sailmail. We would like to gain as much knowledge of the local changes going on and to be able to document the local species of plant and animal and any invasive species that are possibly affecting the area , And document how this is affecting the region both locally and as a whole. Thanks again for your time and please any input is very much welcome .
